Galleon Andalucia

It's all over the news that the Galleon Andalucia would be arriving in Cebu.

Since I hear the term 'Galleon' on my history books way back in high school and see pictures in books, it's always nice to see it personally.

On Oct. 10, 2010, the Galleon Andalucia arrived in Cebu.  After our shift, me and my friends went to the Pier 1 to see it.

When we came, there were a lot of people waiting in line to see it.  There is no entrance fee for it so no one has to worry about losing some money.  There are only limited number of people that are allowed on the boat.  The rest would have to wait until the others would go out.

We waited patiently in line.  Good thing that it just took us up to an hour till it was our turn.

After lining up, you would then reach the receiving area where you get to sit for a few minutes.

Still smiling despite the wait

While waiting as well, you would be able to see different souvenir items.  Some of it are T-shirts and key chains.  They are not officially a business from the Galleon but people outside who decided to make a living.

When it was our turn to see the Galleon, it takes me back to the history class I had.  It takes me back to the time that I had to remember all of Magellan's ships to his arrival here in the Philippines.  All I used to see is just a picture of it but now, I'm in something that looks like it.  It also reminded me of the movie Pirates of the Carribean.

Anyways, let's get to know more about this Galleon Andalucia.
It's a replica of a Spanish galleon that traveled all over the world.  "Andalucia" is a replica of a 17th century galleon that figured in trade activities between Asia, Europe, and the Americas a long time ago.

Inside the galleon, you would be able to see the cannons and cannon balls.

You would see here more information about the Andalucia such as the weight, height and its history.

Aside from the usual things that we see in the movies, there are also different medallions.
You would also see the living room and the rooms of their crews.

You would also see here a barrel.  I'm not sure what it contains.

Just like any ship, you would always see the ship's wheel.

Here are my pictures with the crew of the Galleon Andalucia.

It's always best to end a trip with not only a solo picture but a group picture.
